Family Reunion Picnic/Camping June 2011
A wonderful success! Thank you to EVERYONE who helped with the organization, brought food, was flexible and came to have a great time.
We had a little excitement during check in.
First, I didn't adequately research the rules for dogs on the campground. Bill and I checked in first and were asked for Sadie's shot records and licensing which I did not have.. BUT... she did have her tags on so we were ok. I had to call Mom warn her about needing the licensing and records or we had to arrange for the vet to fax the information to the park office. Thank goodness she was only just down the street from her house since the one dog she was bringing did not have her tags so she had to take Holly back home :( sorry for that Sarah, I sure won't forget to check that again.
The second thing that happened was that apparently Mark was working off another calendar than the rest of us and he booked his site for Saturday and Sunday night rather than Friday and Saturday night.... so they had to do some figuring out and moving around at the camp office. Thank goodness it all worked out, he was able to get a space and all his kids did too fairly close to each other, although Mom/Don and Bill and I were a little bit of a walk away. Worked out good for the younger kids though, because Mark/Ginger, Nina/Mark and Crystal/Mike were all close to the beach area which allowed the adults some time to relax while the kids played at the beach. Mark and Ginger brought their ‘new’ to them hotel on wheels… what kind of camping was that Mark, Air conditioning really!!!! Very nice though he is so handy and has fixed it up nice. He Cheats!!!!!!
Mom, Don and Sarah used the popup and Bill and I brought the old fashioned tent.
Mark's family, Crystal and her family, Nina and her family, Mom and Don and Bill and I all came in Friday night and after setting up camp, we spent a little time just hanging out at Mark's site and then we parted ways for the night to just relax a little before the big picnic day.
Mark/Ginger would have to fill in on what went on at their site Friday night. Mom/Don/Sarah and Bill and I spent a quiet night with a campfire and Sarah stayed up later with Bill and I. I had a great time getting to know Sarah better and learning about her life and aspirations. Nothing like a campfire to sit around and talk with each other, relax and just enjoy nature.
Saturday morning was full of getting ready, when we woke up, I made breakfast for Mom, Don, Sarah, Bill and I, I love fried eggs and bacon when camping. Not so sure what the appeal is but breakfast always tastes better when I am camping. Once breakfast was taken care of, then I got back into the picnic plan mode.
Around 11 oclock, we made our way over to the Pavilion which was a little drive away and started setting up tablecloths, an activity table for the kids, the piñata and began preparing the food table. The rest of the over night campers started to trickle in and everyone took care of setting up their own activities and food. Was wonderful to have everyone working together
"to be continued" Hopefully tomorrow night, right now, time to get ready for bed. Feel free to send me your stories of the weekend and your favorite memories we will post :)
